"Set off soon after dawn in perfect weather to beat the heat later. Start 0600 finish 0900 11.5km total 642m ascent. 3hrs total return, including 45 minutes lazing around around soaking up the view. Zigzagged up through an expensive luxury residential area, the quiet streets felt safe thanks to private security guards patrolling but make your own assessment. Plenty of hikers and morning trail runners up on the hill trails. Half way up I joined the usual trade route from the car park. Ladders, chains and steel staples neuter a few scrambly sections and the summit area has been paved over. Great views. In descent I branched off on the pleasant south nose alternate path which bypasses most of the ladders; longer by distance but quicker if there are the ladder queues. Once below the crags a traverse path went left to my ascent route, which I reversed back to my start point, jogging some of the way." — davidb • Dec 11, 2025
"C+ beguines trad climbing up the South East Arete (Starting from the left of Wallie's Cave, when facing the cave). We combined it with a circumnavigation traverse of the peak, starting from the top of the B-grate pitch (the highest grass band). Was an incredibly fun route!" — CraigBurnsStellenbosch • Feb 6, 2022
"We attempt the 13 peaks challenge in 24h (106km). I only manage to reach 11 peaks ( 81km) The tuffest day of my life up to that point.
Will have to go back and complete it one day." — philipnaude • Aug 24, 2019
"For this day, we did the three peaks. Starting at the bottom of Rhodes Memorial and making our way up devils peak. We then descended onto the saddle and up ledges. This was celebrated with a little cooling splash from one of the ponds. We continued along down India and peaked Lion's head just in time to have a sundowner at signal hill." — MikeyG • Oct 28, 2018
"Summited on the day that the rest of Cape Town decided to do likewise. Some sections of the path get so crowded that you are required to wait a few minutes to use the ladders and the chains. I few alternative routes are available but they can be dangerous. Most years we hear of someone who lost their lives by falling off this Cape Town icon." — desdeary • Jan 30, 2016
"Did this one starting from Green Point and walking all the way up via Signal Hill. Then came down the other side to the city and back to Green Point.
