"I climbed this with Will and Olivia, and AB. We walked down from the parking at Pianalto Santa Serena, passing the sinkholes. Through the forest and to the point where a sign indicates the refuge, Gemma, and the spring. Here you take a faint path that passes below and alongside the quite barren crest that emerges from a spur of the larger mountain to the north. This then enters the forest and skirts around the base of Cima Formale. One can gain some height here, but not too much. The path evaporates at a certain point, and then can be refound. As one turns WWN, one begins to see some terracing and the wooded top of the most easterly of the three tops of Cima Caprarella. And after picking one’s way through the bushes, the largest of these tops becomes visible, and one eventually arrives at a group of three or four delapidated sheds used by sheperds. Heading more north now after passing through a bracken-filled sunken area, Lestra Gigante is now visible before you as you meet a path that comes from Aqua de Carpino, and this trail is now marked.
