"The first part of the trail is Grizzly Flats, which is an old fire road. It is overgrown and a few obstacles in the way higher up the trail. Once you get to the power line tower, the trail goes pretty much straight up the mountain. This part is overgrown and has some loose footing. There are a couple of false peaks. At the summit, someone built a teepee out of old yucca blooms. Nice views at the summit. Lots of bugs heading to the top. Make sure to wear pants for this one." — rickb • Jan 30, 2018
"With the heat on the rise, I chose a quick AM climb. Hoyt Mountain is another place that I had passed at least 100 times without climbing. One reason why I didn't was because there didn't seem to be a trail to the summit. However, while getting out of the car and actually looking this time, I could see that there was a very well defined path going up the slope, it just isn't clear when viewed from the road. The only catch is that is immediately climbs steeply. No problem, though, since I am a member of Peakery and this is what we choose to do. I took my time, rising to the false summit before tackling the actual peak. I didn't stay long, because I wanted to do a little more hiking before the temperatures spiked." — MikeTeeples • Aug 26, 2017
