"From the fire station on Angeles Crest Highway, I picked up the fire road heading toward Mount Lukens. Instead of going all the way to Mt Lukens, I concentrated on a few peaks along the way. Both Pickens and Hawks required long climbs on overgrown fire breaks to reach their summits. I saved Bee Flats for last, which is an easy visit." — MikeTeeples • Nov 9, 2024
"The hike is mostly on a winding and gradual climb on the fire road. The road reaches Hawks Peak first. About a half mile beyond is Mount Pickens. I left the wide fire road and climbed the remnants of a use trail through the brush. It didn't take me long to regret not wearing long pants. Long before I reached the top and climbed back down, my shins were all scratched up. No pain, no gain, I guess." — MikeTeeples • Aug 19, 2017
"5.5 mile r/t traverse with Hawks Peak off FR2N76, total gain for both was ~2,100'. Starting TH was at Hwy 2 mile-marker 27.65, Angeles Crest Ranger Station. Nice alternative route to hike Mt Lukens (14 mile r/t) and bag a couple bonus peaks (Hawks and Pickens) enroute." — BradStemm • Jan 8, 2014
