"Sunday 25th February 2018. An ascent of High Greygrits 522m/40m and Moudy Mea 522m/39m, from the Tan Hill Inn road, Cumbria. 10.4km, with 210m of ascent. 3hrs 30mins.
After picking up AT, we drove north on the M6 via Kirkby Stephen to reach the A 66 trans-Pennine route at Brough. AT then navigated us south on a narrow hill-road close to the fells that were our objective today. It was bright sunshine, but the occasional lenticular cloud over the tops gave us an indication of what to expect when we first opened the car door after parking - a freezing fierce easterly wind, coming from Siberia. Multi-layers were quickly donned to prevent frostbite.
We set off south on the road for a short way, before taking an ATV track up to a a grit road. The ground was frozen solid, making these boggy moors a much easier walking prospect today. We were soon at the trig point on the top, offering a vast panorama of the rolling moorland of the North Pennines. It was amazing to consider that we were in over-populated England in such a place as this.
