"Took the trail up to Corkscrew Peak. Nice views at the top. Descended using track and beta from Kevin to hit Little Corkscrew. Descending to Little Corkscrew is loose class 2. Little Corkscrew has a very intimidating looking knife edge. I navigated around the West side to get to the South side peak (all class 2). I retraced and went around the West side and used Kevin's info to hit the high point on the North side. Followed a pretty reasonable class 3 path to get there. Followed a game trail back down into the wash. Even crossed a little spring which was neat." — parker.goes.outside • Dec 28, 2023

"Day trip to Death Valley to do a Sierra Club DPS hike. We ascended a fun canyon with lots of boulder hopping before linking up with the main trail and descended the standard trail. Beautiful day in the desert with spectacular views all around. " — maggielynn • Dec 24, 2023

"What a fun day! We met at 7am & drove up from Vegas. We were on the trail not too long after 9am. We followed the wash most of the way up before intersecting the (steep!) trail that goes up the east slope. We made it to the summit in around 2.5 hours and had perfect, warm conditions up there to take in the terrific views and enjoy lunch. We had heard good things about Little Corkscrew Peak, so we descended a different way along the ridge towards our second destination. When we hit the low saddle between them, I was a bit intimidated. I decided to scout around the right side of the peak and made it to the top of the ridge. I hit the highest point on the south end of the ridge, but there was another point to the north that looked slightly higher. The ridge was way to serrated & knife-edged to traverse, so I went back down and started looking at some other options on the north and east sides. After a few sketchy climbs, I found myself at the top of the ridge, but a bit too far north. I carefully down climbed and finally found a lass 3 route that took me up to the summit. The southern point looked higher now, but this is the spot that people said was the peak, so I felt good. I hit b..." — Kevin • Jan 19, 2020

"A beautiful day to summit Corkscrew Peak. I've driven by it multiple times on trips through or into Death Valley, but had never hiked it before today. The weather is quickly warming up, so we looked for a day with light winds. The weather forecast for Corkscrew Peak has "breezy" or "windy" in the description most days - but not for the day we summited. Ken and I left Vegas at 5 AM and drove straight to the trailhead/pulloff for Corkscrew Peak. Rather than parking at the sign, we parked at a larger pulloff a bit farther down the road. The entire route was well-maintained trail, if a bit steep at times. The views from the summit were incredible - something you get when a peak is literally a mile higher than the valley floor. The day was clear enough that we could see the Sierra Nevada range. A good hike up and down, and a great day. After we hiked Corkscrew, we drove out to the Racetrack Playa to check out the sailing/racing stones. " — psychikingjes • Apr 14, 2019

"Started from the Corkscrew Peak sign, eventually heading up a canyon to the east of the peak. There were lots of cairns to follow. In the canyon cairns mark the spot to start gaining the ridge. Great views from the summit, I think it took about 3 hours from car to summit, maybe 2 hours down? Got cold and cloudy up at the summit, so we layered up for the descent. My first DV peak!" — kaylam87 • Mar 4, 2018

"Great Trip with Las Vegas Mountaineer Club, organized by Eric Kassan. On out way back we also combed little Corkscrew Peak as an add on Bonus. Nice little Knife Edge to climb on. " — Nuernberger • Dec 14, 2014
