"Relatively short climb up an old jeep trail to an old fire tower. I climbed up to the fourth landing on the tower but stopped there out of a combination of acrophobia and the fact that some of the boards on the landings were missing. There were no views at that point (other than the forest below) but if one braved the trip to the cab, there would have been. The cab was missing a number of floor boards. The trail has a loop partway through; I took the north loop up and the south loop down. The weather was absolutely perfect.
Finding it was as much of a challenge as the actual hike. The sign for Chase Hill Road was missing, but it is the first turn after Lancaster Road comes off of Maine Rt. 23. The Slab City Cemetery will be on the right shortly after the turn. The road to the summit will be on your left up the road a ways. It has no street sign, and is just past a house on the right with a metal roof. A small, hand lettered wooden sign nailed to a tree says "TOWER"at the intersection. On the trail, there is a sign noting that motorized vehicles are prohibited.
