"Wednesday 27th June 2018 A hike along Cwm Serw to the bothy at Cefngarw, followed by an ascent of Carnedd Iago 538m/72m.
16.7km, with 555m of ascent. 6hrs 0min.
As detailed in my photo-blog of 5th June 2018 (see at https://peakery.com/ffridd-y-fedw-united-kingdom/summits/174774/), Y Migneint is a lonely expanse of high blanket bogland in North-West Wales, and a particular favourite locality of mine.
I had been waiting a while for drier conditions to attempt this hike, and a long period of heat-wave weather in Wales, like that of high summer in Spain, gave me the opportunity to undertake it reasonably dry-shod. Despite wearing hot-weather walking clothes that have stood me in good stead for high summer hiking in mainland Europe, and carrying much liquid, I underestimated how baking it was, and how tough this walk turned out to be. Without doubt, these were the hottest conditions I have been hiking in within the UK, and only marginally less intense than a walk I did several years ago in August along the frontier ridge in the High Pyrenees.
