"A long day, for sure! We did the reverse of most people's loops when doing the Arc Dome/North Arc Dome/Cirque Mountain set. We went up the Stewart Creek trail side, to the south and west. It was a nice long ridgeline and the trail was easy to follow, old doubletrack/an old road of some sort. We went straight out to Arc Dome and got snowed on and hailed on and rained on. We were the first to reach the summit for the day, but it was a crowded day - a group of 6-8 with two or three dogs was right behind us, and then there were two or three other smaller groups and singleton hikers we met on the way back. The day was blustery and cold, and as I mentioned we got snowed on, we got hailed on, and we got rained on. Thankfully it is a very easy to follow trail, so I was never worried, and the wind was not nearly to the level that made us turn around on Bunker Hill the week before. I did not appreciate having to drop 1000' just to go back up 1500' to the summit, and then having to turn back around and drop down just to go back up. I got North Arc Dome and Cirque Peak on the way back. Ken did not join me and just stayed on the trail. There was still a huge snowbank and a tricky snow crossing ..." — psychikingjes • Jun 4, 2022
"Beautiful morning climbing up to Arc Dome, then threatening clouds forced me to practically run down to get back to the cover of trees (almost to the trailhead). Quiet, beautiful day in the middle of nowhere! Glad I had microspikes to make one steep snow crossing." — beaucheminjess • May 26, 2022
"Man...what a day. Started around 6:45am from Columbine CG with not a cloud in the sky. I kept a good pace, for fear of storms. The wildflowers were in full bloom in the meadows & tundra. It was so pretty. I went left at the split to Toiyabe Crest Trail, rather than right up Stewart Creek. Got up to the crest & there were only a couple of small clouds. As I continued toward the summit, the clouds were getting bigger, but I still wasn't too worried. Storms had started around 3pm the day before. Made it to the summit in about 4.5 hours, which considering how many pics I took, seemed like a good time. Signed register & took some pics & all of a sudden it started hailing! There had been no warning...no thunder at all. I thought "oh shit" & knew I had to get down fast. I rushed down to the rock shelter I had seen below the summit & huddled down with my poles & pack safely away. The two clouds I had seen had developed instantly into large black clouds & the sky had filled. At this point, I was being pelted heavily with pea sized hail & I was starting to hear thunder. Suddenly, a huge bolt of lightning shot across the sky in front of me & struck the peaks across the way. Then I started to ..." — StudioHoodoo • Jul 20, 2018
"Hiked up the Stewart Creek Trail to Cirque Mountain, then traversed the ridge to North Arc Dome, then finally up to Arc Dome. We descended the NE Ridge back to the Toiyabe Crest Trail. " — Kevin • Jul 25, 2015
