"My son called me today to explore the Sierra de Ricote, and I agreed. We climbed one of the ridges on the eastern side and then joined the Barranco del Pozo trail to Pico Almeces. From here, we followed the main ridge west to the Mezquita trail, where we descended as night fell. The route was a circular route of about eleven miles and a 3,000-foot elevation gain." — franciscobirruezo • Mar 16, 2025
"My son and I took a circular route in the Sierra de Ricote this afternoon, our objective is Pico Almeces and our starting point begins at the La Calera Lodge along a path that crests towards the peak from the northeast. We regain strength at the top and descend through the Barranco del Pozo where a path descends with a steep slope through lush vegetation in some sections. Upon arriving at the Calera Lodge we found forest surveillance and extinction vehicles. In the end we do a circular route of about 7 miles and 2800 feet of elevation gain." — franciscobirruezo • Jun 3, 2024
"I go to this mountain looking for tranquility and pure air. I climb Pico 855 m first in La Sierra de Ricote, the forest is greener than the last time I walked here. I see some wild daffodils as I climb the west edge. I have lunch at the top before going down the east side and make a circular route. I then go to Piedra Bermeja following a forest trail, the rocky ridges soften and the landscape looks drier. This peak is not spectacular, but the silence and the peace it conveys encourage me to meditate for a while on its summit.
Upon returning I decide to go through the Almeces Peak that due to its prominence has good views of the surrounding fields." — franciscobirruezo • Feb 15, 2020
"Beautiful mountain that is in the center of the Región of Murcia. The tracks and paths are well marked and it has some outstanding geological and natural values. We cross the historic Village of Ricote at mountain direction until we find a sign that indicates Almeces Peak. The track goes up
leaving to the right the Barranco de Ambrós.
Further up following black arrows we have taken a narrow path that almost reaches the top.
On the way back we have seen forestry brigades carrying out preventive and surveillance work." — franciscobirruezo • Jul 19, 2017
