"On July 16 we scrambled up Wapta Mountain in Yoho, starting from the parking lot at the currently closed Whiskey Jack hostel. The approach via Yoho Lake is very pleasant and we were soon scrambling up through gullies and cliff bands to get to the Wapta summit block. We deliberated about the best route up the summit block, with Rob taking the Kane route, climbing up a steep rock face and I took the ledge route around to reach the same point on the ridge. Both routes were quite exposed and I wouldn't really recommend either of them. After a leisurely summit break, we explored a series of cairns that lead down from the ridge, however these led to some more exposed downclimbs, so we backed off and returned via the ledge route. On the return we went for a swim in Yoho Lake, which was warm and clear, and is now my new favourite mountain lake." — geoffhardy • Jul 16, 2023
"Great scramble. The Kane crux is low class 5 as advertised, but it's not as challenging as I expected, especially on the way down. This is probably because the exposure is not too bad. We didn't even bother to take a look at the sketchy ledge traverse, which many people took. Climb to the summit after Kane's crux is a "difficult scramble" (Class 4) with serious exposure on its own." — Taras • Aug 15, 2022
"7.5 hrs total with a little rain and snow. GPS was really wonky on the upper slopes. Summit ridge is very nice. First people listed in the summit log (previous was Sep 21, 2012). Takakaw Falls sounded like a jet plane.
