"This is my second visit to these summits. When pulling up to where I started the hike last time (At the end of Marlborough Avenue) I found it blocked off due to construction in the open field before the peaks. I wound up parking in a nearby business parking lot that was empty. The dirt road which serves as the lower walking path goes right past it. So I jumped on it and quickly elevated to Pigeon Benchmark. I continued on to Sugarloaf from there. Instead of going straight up the side, I had noticed last time that there was a trail system that goes to the east side of the peak and then climbs up. I patiently took the trail to the east side of the peak and found the use trail that goes right up to the top. As expected, there are great views from the top. I left the peak from the north side and formed a loop hike back to the starting point." — MikeTeeples • Feb 5, 2022
"I parked at the end of Marlboro Ave and picked up a dirt road going east toward the peak. At the first intersection of dirt roads, I turned right and took a dirt road to the summit of Pigeon Benchmark. That was the easy part. Sugarloaf stands tall nearby. From the dirt road there was a faint use trail on the west face of Sugarloaf. Faint turned into an x-country climb to the summit. From the top I could see a well defined trail going down the north side which led back to the dirt road. This turned out to be a well executed loop hike on a cool Inland Empire day." — MikeTeeples • Feb 9, 2019
"0.7 miles 1-way w/795' elevation gain from the end of Flanders Road (TH:1170'), with a little class 2 along the way. 2nd summit of 2-peak traverse including nearby (0.5 mile) Pidgeon Benchmark." — BradStemm • Apr 25, 2013
"Set out for Sugarloaf Mountain @3pm with good friends (Aja d'Encarnacao and the girls, Sky & Love. Met up with Ioe and his son.) Not too bad of a hike on a cool semi cloudy day. The beginning was semi steep but not too bad, kids had a little struggle scrambling up some rocks but soon picked up the pace as it leveled out. First peak was not the Loaf as we thought and there was a small delay to keep heading on to the nearby Loaf peak but.... with a little convincing that blow pops and chips would be the victory snack at the top, we quickly moved on chanting "blow pops and chips!" "blow pops and chips!"(Funny how that works every time... haha) Few minutes later we hit our summit! Not too windy or cold just a cool breeze with clear views of Down Town Riverside, Mt. Ruby in the distance and the surrounding hills, UCR and a nice sunset. Headed back down soon after with frequent stops to toss some rocks off the edge and some rock collecting with Love. She offered me a partnership in her rock business and I agreed, pretty much I was her personal rock carrier assistant to get her load of earth back to the house, she let me name a few rocks and that was worth the effort...lol) About 2 hours ..." — JohnnyMar • Feb 12, 2012
