"Started at the ski hill, walked to Middle Kootenay Pass. Ridgewalked over Rainy Ridge NW to Rainy Ridge then had a fun scree down to the lakes. Took the trail back to Middle Kootenay Pass and then ridgewalked over Haig S3 over to Haig. Descended the east ridge of Haig back to the ski hill.
The whole route was quite easy but in many sections where there were cliff bands that you just had to pick and choose your way through. Nothing over class 2 or 3 if you don’t want it to be. The only exception was descending the north ridge of Haig S3 - Spicy! There were some class 4 or 5 downclimbs.
Overall fun day. Middle Pass Lakes were my favourite." — danielvanderpyl • Aug 15, 2022
"On the 1st day of Middlepass Lakes Basecamp, we went up Rainy Ridge from Third Middlepass Lake. It is easy or moderate scramble depending if you prefer to stick to the ridgecrest or avoid all difficulties on the scree below." — Taras • Jun 29, 2019
"No issues on ascent. Dusting of snow on the ground and snow in the air, but easy travel from the false summit.
Descended on good scree to the lakes below, then followed a good trail back to the pass.
There were sections of deep snow on the route, but it was supportive and didn't slow travel. The two creeks we crossed on the pass were swollen with melt water. Wet feet!" — mike_rogers81 • Jun 10, 2018
