"I hiked up to the North Peak of Mt. Gardner. It's surprisingly hard to get there because there is no trail from Tinkham Rd directly up onto Gardner. I parked at the Tinkham campground and bushwhacked up to the Iron Horse trail, then up to FS road 9020; this took 1.5 hours. From there, the FS road winds up to the summit. There was snow above about 3400 ft. The top is nothing special, but the views toward the Duke of Kent are good. On the way down, I wanted to avoid the bushwhack, so I went west on 9020, but Harris Creek was impassable (without wet feet), so I reluctantly slogged down through the brush. The NW facing side of the hill is a pain; it's steep and wants to drop you into the creek. So I went further east to where the slope faces down to the north. On the Iron Horse, I decided to hike 2 miles down to the McClellan trail and 2 miles back on Tinkham Rd to the car. I just didn't feel like bushwhacking any more. I'm also out of shape since I haven't been hiking much in several months." — markgarrett • May 28, 2020
