"More unfinished business; I meant to do this with a bud in 2018, but, well, life. It was cold and windy; average wind was no worse than last weekend, but the gusts were more serious and started knocking me over a lot. So I sought the canyon for wind protection on the way out, and it goes -- nothing worse than some class 3 dryfall avoidance. The ridge I took up is class 2 at worst. Both Luxor and Uriah are given the same elevation on USGS maps, though Luxor does seem higher in person -- that may be an optical illusion. Uriah was named by Paula, for a little kid who didn't deserve the tragedy of his life and early death" — hwstock • Jan 29, 2023
"5.27.19....Luxor & Uriah Peaks, 11 miles, 3,400’ gain in the Muddy Mountains. After running all weekend with Jimmy, I needed some big mountains to satisfy my need for solitude and adventure. The weather looked good for getting back out to the Muddy Wilderness. Usually a trek here in late May/Memorial Day would guarantee you death by heat stroke or a rattlesnake bite. Today was cool and pleasant with clouds for shade and nice breezes... (and I’m sure the snakes were avoiding the chilly temps today too.)
The desert was soaked from a rainstorm and smelled fantastic. It also made driving off road easier as the sand was compact.
My main goal was to explore the ridge Between Luxor and Muddy Mtn but the terrain and down-climbs became creepy and unfriendly after Uriah Peak so I just called it a day. So beautiful out here. Even the Cats Claw was lush and flowering. I saw a unique looking fat lizard sunning itself on a rock.
*Luxor Peak has a twin peak that was unnamed so I named it Uriah after my Friend Laurie’s Grandson.

"3.31.19. Solo, 10.5 miles, 3,200’ gain, 5:49hr. I was sick from a cold so I was slow but I felt good later in the day. Sunrise start will chilly breezes. This is a beautiful peak with grand views in every direction. Especially of Lake Mead and The Bowl of Fire. I went up a challenging ridge and saw an agave roasting pit and many wildflowers along the way. " — paula.raimondi • Mar 31, 2019
"Named so because it is a big dark pyramid. This was a great hike. I went through Anniversary Narrows & up a steep ridge. Saw a large cave in the wash & several Native American agave roasting pits. Hiked back through Anniversary Narrows in the dark...spooky! So far, this is my favorite of the higher Muddy peaks." — StudioHoodoo • Feb 18, 2012
