"5 am start from Jonkershoek gate and did the Northern route out and back. Not sure if this route is closed as mentioned in many other reports, but anyway, the path on the lower sections has clearly been taken over by MTB trails. Path overgrown but reasonable 60% of the way, the gpx file to navigate came in handy and saved time on about 4 occassions. 3:30 up and 2:30 down. No water on the way and lekker hot! Views to east and west from the ridge quite amazing" — dawidburger • Dec 16, 2023
"What should have been a ridgeline adventure all the way to Stellenbosch Mountain, detoured as my knees were in too much pain.
Quite a tough route going up. LOTS of exposed scrambling" — Kortstok • Dec 10, 2022
"Summited on a clear, blustery day. Had taken the route up Sosyskloof which meant quite a bit of exposure to wind as we picked our way along the ridgeline. Route down to the north far easier with a lot better markings." — davidcase • Jul 17, 2022
"Finally submitted Haelkop (Guardian Peak) on my 3rd attempt. First attempt we got lost in long grass up Soysiesbos ravine. Second time I came back to navigate the Haelkop Step (section between the saddle and the 'Koppie' along the ridgeline to Haelkop). We did a circular route, bundu bashing and finding old paths down the Stellenboschberg side of the mountain. " — CraigBurnsStellenbosch • Jul 18, 2020
"We started our hike in Jonkershoek , making use of the Kurktrekker path up to the Panorama trail. We followed this till we reached a fork and took a left towards Landroskop. From there its a matter of fighting your way through some extremely tall protias and choosing your own way up Sneeukop." — MikeyG • Oct 19, 2019
"Got lost en route up to the saddle (East ridge route). You follow the route up the valley with the natural forest on your left, at the top of the forest don't follow the river further up (we got ourselves in head high grass with thorn creepers inbetween), hug the top of the forest closely and the faint path will appear which will take you to the top of the saddle ahead.
Lost too much time losing the route, will attempt is again soon.
FYI, the path doesn't exsist anymore from the saddle to the summit. " — CraigBurnsStellenbosch • Jun 15, 2019
"Started at the gate in Jonkershoek, summited Haelkop (Guardian Peak), traversed to Stellenboschberg where Willem was waiting for us at the summit. After we came down on Coetzenburg side we got a lift back to the gate with Willem." — LeRoux-Kotze • Nov 6, 2016
