"Family day out. Gambled for a good weather and weren't disappointed. The forecasts are getting worse and off almost every day now. Original plan was to follow Cat Creek Ridge trail north of an unnamed hill but found a solid unmapped trail south of it, which is definitely shorter. Didn't know there was a coal mine but came across of some its remrants." — alexp • Jun 18, 2022
"Most people do Cat Creek Hills and Stony Ridge separately. Since they are only 700m apart from each other as the crow flies, it makes sense to do the both in one go. The loop makes a complete circumnavigation of Junction Hill and adds more variety and scenery." — Taras • Feb 18, 2019
"It was a cold drive at -19C this morninig. We took an extra break so the weather had a chance to warm up. It was not too bad by the time we started hiking. Breezy/windy, but quite manageable." — BertB • Jan 19, 2019
"Bert and I met up at the 22/22x at 7 A.M. It was apparently -19 according to his car. We hung out a bit at Tim Hortons in Black Diamond and waited for the chinook winds to blow in. It definitely got a lot warmer throughout the day. There was a ton of elk shit all over the ridge. Or maybe it was sheep shit... in any case, it was a giant herd of something that had left it all over the entire ridge. We did a little bit of scrambling to the first summit where the big cairn is, then continued onward to the final end of the ridge, which wasn't too much further. There were some ups and downs on this one and it was a wee bit tiring after a while. But winter just requires more effort anyways. Views were okay, but the sky was not clear - too much snow and cloud blowing around over the Continental Divide." — leigh-annewebster • Jan 19, 2019
