"Hiked up with a friend who'd never been to Wyanokie high point before. He was amazed by the view spanning from the peaks of Harriman State Part to the north, down to the suspension towers of the Verrazano-narrows bridge in the south." — michaelzandonella • Mar 18, 2024
"Went up with Marissa, Keith and Tony. Unusually hot, 85-degree April afternoon, with the smoke of a massive wildfire burning to the north, impeding the view to the south and southeast." — michaelzandonella • Apr 13, 2023
"On a cool, partly cloudy afternoon, I parked with my dog at the Weiss Ecology center parking lot off Snake Den Road in Wanaque. There we took the Hewett/Butler (blue) in and out trail to the summit of Wyanokie High Point. We actually had to walk about a quarter mile up snake den road before coming to the dead end where the trail began. It was rather steep and already had my legs burning before we got on the blue Butler/Hewitt trail. The trail was well marked and easy to follow, however, it was one heck of a steep ascent. The path was very rocky, and I had to stop numerous times to catch my breath. Scaling the top 30 feet was a bit harrowing because we had to scramble up huge boulders off the path. Moderately challenging? For a seasoned climber maybe, but for me it was definitely challenging! I later discovered that I had misread one of the blazes, which caused us to have to go off trail and bushwhack to the summit.
The effort was well worth it because when we got to the summit, the 360-degree panoramic view was breathtaking. One of the nicest views I have ever experienced, as I have never hiked outside of New Jersey. All the surrounding peaks and the reservoir below could be clear..." — michaelzandonella • Mar 24, 2023
"Took my Aunt on her first mountain climb. A cancer survivor, she was barely able to walk around the house just a year ago. But she fell in love with my pictures of the outdoors and had been training hard for this day. Her determination and courage led her to the top of this beautiful NJ summit today, and I couldn't be more proud of her. "It's not the mountains we conquer, but ourselves."" — wacbravo • Aug 30, 2017
