"Norvin Green Forest, West Milford, NJ. From the Norvin Green-Otterhole parking lot. Otterhole and Wyanokie Crest loop trail. Blue trail > green trail > yellow trail. I simply wanted to get to the summit, so I did half of the loop trail I found on the AllTrails hiking site. The most challenging part of this ascent was just past the start of the yellow trail. The trail gets quite steep for an elevation gain of 150 ft. or more. Near the top, you have to scramble over about 40 feet of sheer rock ledges. My four-legged companion; half Bernese Mountain Dog, had no problem, but I had to crawl on all fours to get up onto those ledges. A bit harrowing for a 60+ year old with bad knees. It was worth the effort however, because those ledges did provide some awesome views of the valley and mountain peaks to the east. The NYC skyline was clearly visible as well. With the challenging rock climbing behind us, we made our way to the mountain ridge. There were a few rock ledges that offered views of some other peaks, and small lakes to the west.
