"I started out this hike at 11 AM (very late) and I only had a 4 hour slot in Lake Elsinore for the mountain bike ride. Then I rode up the Man Divide Road, which has some great views. Then I saw Lake Elsinore. Then I summited Mt Cairn and the summit had great views and a ruined device. Then I went up to Vicker Benchmark. I saw a weird weather monitoring thing and some beautiful flowers. Then I went to the summit, which has meh views and the benchmark. I also found a nearby coffee can which is the register I placed at the summit. Then I went down the trail I went up the trail and turned left to go to Munhall Saddle. Then at Munhall Saddle I turned left to get onto the Los Pinos Trail. Then I summited Burnt Mountain, which is boring. Then the trail was cool and has a forest. Then I summited Los Pinos. The summit has a sign, 2 benchmarks, a register, and some insane views. Then I mountain biked back down." — lc444 • Apr 24, 2023
"Again, I lost my memory card, (3rd one I lost this year- as the theme goes!!) but have the video set uploaded to YouTube, so I will put the links to show the hike down below. I was going to go to Los Pinos Peak as well, but I was a little tired and worn out, also with the warm weather, I was a little lazy as well, so I hiked to Vicker Benchmark and then to Los Pinos Saddle and returned to my car at Long Canyon/Main Divide junction near Falcon Group Campground." — brianpowell • Mar 26, 2022
"With a 4 hour window to hike while I was in Lake Elsinore, I opted to revisit Los Pinos Peak. My last time there was 19 years ago, so I was overdo to come back. To start things off, I stopped off at Cairn Mountain first, which has good views toward Lake Elsinore. Next up was Vicker Benchmark. While on the summit, I noticed a giant cloud swallow Los Pinos Peak and Burnt Mountain. This made the rest of the hike in the fog with no distant views. Good day in the mountains, nonetheless! "We started at the junction of Long Canyon Road and Main Divide Rd. We continued for a few minutes (walking) to the actual trailhead. There was a small 3S04 sign and a gate at the actual trailhead. After that, it just got more scenic. Then we passed by a firebreak, went by a small bowl, and saw an old 3s04 sign. Then we saw our first pine tree and then we turned right off the Main Divide to get to Vicker Benchmark. The trail was loose n' steep, even tho it just rained a few days ago. Then we saw a antenna, and faster than we knew it, e were at the summit of Vicker Benchmark. It had a benchmark on top and some decent views. We went down a steep and loose trail but ended up having to scramble down (since we were only about 5 feet) down to Main Divide Rd. The steep and loose trail had some ccol stuff on it. Then after that we reached Munhall Saddle. Just a junction, no plaque. Then we continued on the LOs Pinos Trail. The trail was very steep a first, then mellows out o bumps on the ridge. After that we hit up Burnt Mountain (a peak I just added to Peakery) Then we reached Little Los Pinos Saddle. I started to get cold there. We almost missed the turn up to the summit but luckily my d..." — lcnguyen • Dec 13, 2021
"My third time, I hiked the same way up as the previous two visits, up Main Divide from Long Canyon Rd to Firebreak to summit, which is about 1.6 mi one way. I then went down to Los Pinos (Munhall Saddle) and hiked to Horsethief Peak (4,313'). I was tempted to go all the way to Trabuco Peak (4,604'), but decided to turn back after topping out on Hosethief Peak, since I hiked on 4 hours of sleep. All in all, it was again a peaceful, crisp day with only one mountain biker the entire hike! The hike to and from Vicker is about 3.2 miles round trip with 900' gain, a fairly easy hike with stupendous scenery! Hiking to Horsethief Peak entails 1.75 mi hiking one way in addition. So hiking totals for the day: 6.7 mi round trip with about 1,200' for both peaks ranking moderate in difficulty. It was yet another mellow day in the great Santa Ana Mountains. Stats below include only the hike to Vicker BM. There may be at least one other way to get to Vicker, and it appears much longer and more strenuous. Upon checking Google Earth, I see that there are a series of firebreaks from by Old Dominion Saddle that one might be able to follow in an undulating fashion to reach Vicker BM. I wi..." — brianpowell • Feb 28, 2018
"This was the first of a three peak visit found along Main Divide Road: Vicker Benchmark - Hosethief Peak - Trabuco Peak. I would estimate that this peak is about 1.75 miles one way from the south vehicle gate parking area (where the paved road turns to dirt). Great views down toward Lake Elsinore. On the way down the opposite side of the peak, I found a big water stash of bottled water hidden behind some trees. I really didn't think much of it, until I came back from Trabuco Peak with almost all my water gone and getting dehydrated on this upper 90 degree day. The water came in handy for me on the return to the parking area about 2 miles away. Thank you to whoever provided the much appreciated water supply!" — MikeTeeples • Oct 7, 2017
"Beautiful, scenic hike up Main Divide Road from junction of Main Divide and Long Canyon Rd. near Falcon and Blue Jay Campgrounds. The summit is just to the southeast of Los Pinos (Munhall) Saddle. Before reaching the pine trees at the saddle take the mildly steep use trail off to the right of Main Divide and follow it to the top. There is a survey marker and a small jar with a summit register. Views are expansive over the Inland Empire, OC, except where Los Pinos Ridge (and Peak) rise over to the northwest." — brianpowell • Dec 10, 2016
"1.5 miles 1-way w/950' gain from North Main Divide southern gate parking area (TH:3,420'). Small group hike with John Santy and Frank Martin, came across Pat Wells hiking in the area so she joined in the trek." — BradStemm • Apr 8, 2015
