"So happy to finally be out in the Koolaus again. Wailupe was pretty tiring and steep and weather wasn't really in our favor, extremely muddy Wiliwilinui day, but still so happy to be out" — timothyevans • Jun 11, 2026

"Went to wa’ahila ridge trail to run the hurt trail series race solo since I couldn’t attend the race due to work and ended up accidentally going off the race course and summiting Mt. Olympus and then heading back down to the turn that goes down into Manoa before turning back to the trailhead. It ended up raining after I came down from the summit so thankfully I just narrowly escaped what would’ve been a dangerously muddy down climb " — tonywhite • Apr 29, 2026
"Started at the visitor center for a trail run. Most of the way, I was following R1 4wd road the turned into R2, which led me closer to the cinder cone. The final section of the approach is through rugged a'a lava, then red cinder while climbing up to the high point. Weather was chilly, around 50F with occasional rain." — nandorszotak • Apr 28, 2026
"I finally had the opportunity to climb Kuiki after waiting for the right weather conditions. I was joined by a friend for this late afternoon exploration, starting from the Paliku cabin.
After a brief wrong turn, we located the steep trail leading up to the rim. The ascent involved some enjoyable rocky scrambles. Once we reached the rim, we followed the fence line to a rock face, navigated around it via a faint trail marked by a blue ribbon, and reached a clearing.
My friend stayed at the clearing while I continued the bushier ascent to the plateau. Upon reaching the top, I encountered two different ahus (rock piles). Although another peak looked taller, my topo map confirmed the second ahu was Kuiki. To be certain, I climbed both.
It was a great adventure and marks #49 on my Hawaii 100 Highest list.
