"Deb and I tripped out to Kauai to hike the landscape. We stayed in Kapaa and our first trail was to Nounou Mountain (Sleeping Giant) This is a 4 mile out and back with about 1000' in elevation gain. A great warm up hike for us, an easy, steady grade up to the summit. Views are all around, the summit has a narrow ridge that you traverse from the Giants head to the Giants chin. Pretty cool looking down the cliff on the east side of the chin! Loved it, obviously the weather was hot as Kauai weather seems to always be hot." — hbotc • Sep 26, 2017
"One final climb of Sleeping Giant, this time after breakfast on Holly's first day in Kauai. Watched whales breech over sunrise then took our time switching up the East side. Enjoy a glass of wine from Maui at the summit then a second glass in the caves below the chin. Probably my favorite hike on the island." — Christopher • Mar 16, 2013
"Wanted to watch the full moon rise over the Pacific from the summit. Got out of clinic late to meet up with the hiking group only to find out I had parked at the wrong trailhead that added two miles of thick, cage-like bamboo forest to hike in in the dark. I met up with the group just below the summit and had some drinks and snacks while the moon peaked through the clouds intermittently. Made some cool new friends and got a shuttle back to my car." — Christopher • Feb 26, 2013
"After a nice morning on the Kapela Ridge, I wanted to scout this hike out for when Holly came to visit. The first half of the hike is in lush forest before you final get high enough for some views, which were outstanding. Kapa'a was spread out below with farms spread out to the west. The "chin" was the most impressive part of the hike with a knife edge catwalk to a lookout." — Christopher • Feb 24, 2013
