"Over 12 miles, trail well maintained. Brier was off Forest service road and unmaintained. Ticks were unbearable. Plenty of campsites along route. Took roughly 9 hours at a 2 mile pace and plenty of stops. Unrewarding views but a couple small lookout. Tray seems popular. Road is well used and very popular " — Kinglamp • Jul 4, 2025
"AT lash Day 3: Powell Mountain to Unicoi Gap, with side trips to nearby peaks along the way. Several short, straightforward bushwhacks to the nearby named peaks. Bushwhacked Double Spring Knob via the southeast arm, and was able to find an intermittent herd path on the way up. Caught a shuttle for a hostel stay, shower, and town food at Unicoi Gap. "Hiked Appalachian Trail from Tray Gap. Great views from peak and switchback overlook near peak!
Plan A was to drive Tray Mountain Road to Tray Gap, but it had recently washed out a lot of deep ruts.
Plan B was to drive Indian Grave Gap Road, but it was flooded by a stream.
Plan C was to drive Corbin Creek Road, and we made it all the way to Tray Gap." — davidensley • Aug 16, 2020
