"Hiked from Byron Reese Trailhead parking lot to Appalachian Trail to Blood Mountain peak. On the way up we lost the trail, climbed up through rhododendrons and got back on trail at the overlook. Amazing view from overlook! Now I understand why this hike is so popular. Stayed on trail back to parking lot." — davidensley • Sep 22, 2020
"Started at Byron Reece. Took AT Westbound up and over. Returned via Freeman Trail. At the AT/Freeman intersection, took the AT to Neel Gap/Mountain Crossings. After browsing, returned to parking lot via Hwy 19.
Saw a lot of what appeared to be first-time hikers out on #optoutside Friday. Had to help a group of girls and some dogs who took the Freeman westbound and thought they had already crossed the peak. Didn't know where they had parked either. Finally deduced they had parked at the Byron Reece lot. Gave them directions to follow the white blaze and the bad news they still had to go up to the top and back down." — dervari • Nov 27, 2015
"Did the Jarrard Gap/Slaughter Creek Loop. Came up from Lake Winfield Scott on the Jarrard Gap Trail connected to the AT. Then hiked to Blood Mountain then I came back south to Slaughter Creek Trail and hiked back to Lake Winfield Scott." — WoodBooger • Oct 21, 2014
"Cold day did the Blood Mountain loop. Up the Byron Reese around the Freeman Trail and at Bird Gap went north on the AT to the summit. Then I continued down Blood to Flatrock Gap and back down the Byron Reese Trail." — WoodBooger • Oct 25, 2013
