"Mostly sunny day. Parked at the Deerfield River lot across River Rd from the Dunbar trail head. Followed the scenic Dunbar Brook trail to the steep rise of the Smith Hollow Trail. Visited both lean-to shelters on the way up. The Ridge one is in good shape but the Smith Hollow one is a little more rough and in a buggy area with a slightly overgrown trail. I would recommend skipping this shelter and staying on Raycroft Ext. Road to the Spruce Hill Trail. Note: some parts of the trail are the same as the snowmobile roads. They are not parallel but one in the same. Found raspberries on the Spruce Hill Trail before the summit at a power line cut through.
Took the Spruce Hill Trail back down to Raycroft Rd (briefly) and then to the Dunbar Brook. Stopped briefly at the Dunbar Shelter. About 7 hours round trip. The vista is fairly limited but nice. Very nice forests in the area and Trans-Canada maintains a nice parking area and park to eat at. " — Gregrog • Jul 26, 2015
