"Had my yearly physical from 11am to Noon followed by a visit to Trader Joe’s for lunch vittles and bev plus other food essentials. After lunch on my way back home I stopped at the Mt Rose TH to do the 3.3 mile RT hike of Slide Mountain for a little exercise. I thought about doing the south peak of Slide but I had groceries in the car that needed to be put in the refrigerator or at least get out of the heat." — Nimblefoot • Sep 10, 2026
"Did Slide by crossing 431 and hopping onto the campground road to access the service road of Mount Rose ski area. Mingled with various antennae and buildings to reach the rocky top. On my way down I chatted with the campground host who told me the day before there were a number of ambulances in Mt Rose PA responding to a guy who was suffering from dehydration. The host indicated that they had to go in with a stretcher with the big wheel to get the guy out. He overestimated his fitness and underestimated the difficulty of the hike. The heat is not bad with days starting in the 60’s and rising into the low 80’s. It’s more the doubleheader of elevation gain and constant bright sun with minimal shade( as in “what’s that?”).
Back to the PA to hop on the TRT and whack to Tamarack. To my pleasant surprise there is a fine use path all the way to the top…easy peasy. I don’t recall that path being there the first doing Tamarack with my wife. Finished the half day traversing over Peak 9201 since it was right there and it’s more interesting than strolling back on the trail. " — Nimblefoot • Aug 3, 2026
