"A very mild day for early February to hike Scarface though because of a bridge closure the hike was rerouted by recommendation from a friend to bushwhack the back side up a less travelled route which was a lot of work route finding but a successful and awesome climb" — ramjet1963 • Feb 9, 2024

"It has a couple of nice views on the way to the summit (which has none) but the real star of this hike is the trail itself. What a gorgeous walk - mushrooms, creeks, pines, a very cool bridge, and beautiful dark woods. " — stacydedring • Aug 22, 2023

"I know this is one of the less popular hike of the Saranac Lake 6er challenge, but I actually enjoyed it a lot. No much views at the summit, but the trail itself is really pretty." — v_racine • Oct 23, 2022
"Met up with a friend, Ed from Long Island, mid day on Friday of Columbus Day weekend. We decided to do Scarface as he needed it for the Saranac Lake 6 challenge. He was pleasantly surprised by the easy approach on a pine needle covered trail followed by a little climbing and then the winding approach to the actual summit in the trees. Speedy descent before heading to the Loj for the weekend." — Nimblefoot • Oct 8, 2021

"Saranac 6 Winter 4/6 with Kim.
Beautiful pink sunrise on the road today driving up. Trailhead not plowed and in rough shape. Managed to squeak in with my Subaru and was fine.
We got on trail just about 07:30, we wore snowshoes all day and were comfortable. The trail was well-packed the entire way today minus the last portion of the walk on the ridge of the mountain from snow blowing and drops from the trees. The temperature was showing -2° on my watch for the ascent, but we had no wind to deal with and bright blue skies and sunshine were a tease through the thick trees.
The first two miles went quickly through beautiful forest with crazy tall trees, mostly flat. The uphill was steady and somewhat steep. Once we got up on the ridge we slowed down significantly pushing through heavy snow laden tree branches and losing motivation knowing there was no stellar view ahead of us. We reached the summit disc after about 2.5 hours of hiking, had some snacks and headed back down to the viewpoint. Took some photos & then took our sleds off our packs for some premium sledding to descend.
All day we saw tons and tons of rabbit tracks in the snow, but alas, no bunny sightings for ..." — kellieirene • Feb 21, 2021

"Dad and I climbed this mountain to get two of our friends up it for the Saranac 6er. Because let's face it, why else would anyone climb this long trail with no views from the summit!" — RangersApprentice • Jan 4, 2020

"My part of the Saranac Lake 6er relay climb,, Up and back in three hrs. Beautiful trails with lots of muddy areas but a great day overall. Watched a guy drag a Doe (deer) all field dressed down part of the lower section on the way in. Don't see that every day but the colours of a beautiful fall day with great friends doing what we love" — ramjet1963 • Oct 19, 2019

"Clear sunny Monday. Not many on the trail. Trail was nice, going along stream and in and out of trees. Was disappointed that a few people thought the small summit was a great place to pee and leave toilet paper. Smelled like pee. :(" — suzannerunciman • May 6, 2019

"Couldn't ask for a better day. Sun is out, temps in the 30's, a nicely packed trail making the snowshoe trek easy. Had great views from the outlook and the powder on the trees was something to behold!" — hbotc • Mar 2, 2019

"After completing the Saranac Lake 6ers in April/May 2018, I went back with my niece Serena for Columbus Day weekend.
Thank you for starting the Adirondack 29er Peak Challenge... we will be back next year : )" — lancehansen • Oct 6, 2018
