"One of the best mountains ever! Made to Margherita peak in a week trip. Profoundly wilder and otherworldy mountain.

"Climbed the Mountains of the Moon (Margherita Peak) July 2016.
A true adventure and very hard work. 4 days to get to Elena Hut (Base Camp).
Peak day was a 13 hour day to the peak and return to huts below base camp however well worth it.
Amazing views into the Congo" — chriswood • Jun 27, 2016

"This was the first peak in the Challenge21: Water for People, One Peak at a Time climbing project. Read about our expedition here: http://blog.challenge21.com/rwenzori/, and learn more about Challenge21 here: www.challenge21.com. " — jakenorton • Aug 21, 2011

"Jagged Globe expedition to Rwenzori. Central trek (anticlockwise) from Nyakalengija. We left Kitandara Huts at 06:40 and arrived at the summit of Point Edward (4843m), highest point of Mount Baker at 10:30. Our route left the trekking route over the Freshfield Pass. Once having left the Freshfield Pass there was much scrambling. There were some cairns, but sometimes these were misleadingly placed. There was one slightly awkward part, not far from the top. The Edward Glacier is much shrunken so there was no need for crampons to be carried, although ice axes were taken just in case they were needed, as were ropes. Neither were needed. Time given by Wielochowski (guidebook) is 5 hrs so we had done well. It was evident that the route taken did not correspond to that of Wielochowski. We returned to the Freshfield Pass the same way and then along the trekking trail to the Guy Yeoman Hut. The descent had been through some magnificent country with excellent views, including Bujongolo and Kambramba caves." — peter43 • Feb 23, 2005

"Jagged Globe expedition to Rwenzori. Central trek (anticlockwise) from Nyakalengija. We all left Elena hut at 06:40. The route goes up a scrambly path to the Elena Glacier. We roped up for the glacier. We ascended the Elena Glacier and then traversed the East Stanley Glacier. At the north end we descended a little to join the Margherita Glacier. We ascended this glacier by going rightwards to avoid a steep ice cliff. We reached the col between Points Alexandra and Margherita. The upper part of Margherita was free of snow. We moved from the col along the top of the glacier, where it met the rock, until reaching a point where a fixed rope hung down the rock. . The rocks were cold and rather slippery. The rock above the fixed rope was much easier. The top of Margherita (5109m), the highest point of Mount Stanley, was reached. I arrived back at the Elena Hut at 15:20 so the round trip took 8 hrs 40 min. Wielochowski(guidebook) gives the Elena Hut - Margherita time as 3 hrs so our time was rather slow - mostly due to the difficult section. Crampons were worn on the glacier. Most of us continued to Kitandara Huts for the night, but two were too tired and spent another night at Elena." — peter43 • Feb 21, 2005
