"A steep climb up the front of the mountain to the peak. Distance of 2,4km and elevation of 352m. The proteas were coming into bloom this time of year making it a beautiful climb. Great view from the top all the way to J'Bay on a clear day." — ForTheLoveOfNature • Jun 30, 2025

"We started from the SW side in the Robinson pass. Not to overgrown. Beautiful views! The ascent was not very difficult. Decided to make it a circular route going down the very steep N side. Very different from the ascent. Had to zigzag to find safe area to climb down the ridges. Very overgrown. But still lots of fun!" — Doretbm • Jun 16, 2025

"On approach to Kleinwinterhoek Peak, we were drawn to the Cathedral Spiers peak along the way, and it was too tempting to leave unattempt, especially considering we had ample time in the day left. The peak is semi freestanding with a ridgeline running up the back of the peak. From afar it looks like trad climbing is required and we didn't have much hope of succeeding to climb it's summit. But as we approached we found an exposed B grade scramble up the southern face to the top. A little bit hair raising as the lichen on the rock was still damp from recent rains. From the summit it is definitely the best view one can get of Kleinwinterhoek Peak! An extremely impressive face.
There after we scrambled back on the same line and found a potential alternative route to the grassy gully down the left, about 50m long. I descended onto a long ramp but on closer inspection it looked like a long slippery flat rock slope taking you off a 500 m drop so I quickly backed out of it.
After getting back onto the main route to Kleinwinterhoek, we found a nice traverse line which cut out 100 m of decent and assent to get us back on track for the route to summit Kleinwinterhoek.

"After much negotiation and effort, access to Kleinwinterhoek Peak was finally secured via Die Ster farm, replacing the lost route through Secret Falls campsite after the farm changed hands four years ago. Access was only granted a week before the June long weekend, so only Jess and I could make the trip.
We gained 600m elevation to establish a base camp on a plateau above Kleinpoortsenek, beside a small stream surrounded by protea bushes and abundant birdlife. Setting off before sunrise, we headed along the ridgeline toward Kleinwinterhoek Peak. Along the way, the striking Cathedral Spires peak caught our attention. Though it appeared to require technical climbing, we found a challenging but doable exposed scramble to the summit, rewarded with an incredible view of Kleinwinterhoek’s impressive face.
Returning to the main route, we found a traverse that saved us some elevation changes. Approaching Kleinwinterhoek Peak, the slabs looked daunting, especially damp, but the final ascent was manageable. The summit at 1955m was cold with patches of leftover snow. After a long hike back, we enjoyed a refreshing dip in the river and dinner while watching the sunset.

" — LeRoux-Kotze • Jun 14, 2025
