"An incredible two weeks. Headed directly over the 4610 meter pass from Lukla and down to Kote over 3 days. Everyone we passed on the way out had been unable to summit due to high winds over 150km/hr. Two people were heli evacd for frostbite and another for altitude and snow blindness. Headed to high camp when the weather was just starting to turn and summited the next morning at sunrise after climbing in a full moon. Made it back to Lukla in another 4 days. "Terrifying 8 hour bus ride to Dhunche, by 4. Hiked 1300 meters up from town to Sing Gompa in less than 3 hours for the night. Next day hiked to Gosaikunda at 4320 meters, went up to Laurebina pass that afternoon to acclimate at 4630 meters. Woke at 3 AM the next morning and found a use trail on to the ridge line above to tag peak 4730 meters. Unfortunately found a lot of loose class 4 and has to hunker down until sunrise so I could spot a safe route. Summits 4730 just as the sun rose. Dropped into the basin towards Surya and slogged through the morraine up to a decent scree chute that put me on the summit ridgeline. Took another hour and a lot of scrambling to hit the summit of Surya, my highest solo climb to date. Of note, there is a peak about 100 meters shorter to the west that incorrectly has a Surya Peak plaque on it. "Seriously great day. Steep hike to a lookout beneath the summit with views of Langtang, Ganesh and Buddha peaks and even Manaslu in the far distance. Passed through sacred headwaters and a Buddhist nunnery on the return. Even spotted a small barking deer! Hauled out about 10lbs of trash in a bag ready to burst on the descent. "First Himalayan summit is hardly a giant but a good start none the less. Guides are required for non-Nepalese which can be acquired at the gate for about $10 USD. On the clearest of days you can see Everest, I still had nice views of the Langtang region and possibly Makalu. Nice lookout tower and small buddhist temple at the summit.
