We retraced our outward route back from Sail Ghorm to Pt. 745m in some haste, as the day was getting on, with sunset at 18:00 hrs. A flanking path made its way round the north-east side of this top to a broad col, joining another path to ascend the south-west ridge of Sail Garbh, at 809m the highest peak on the massif. The route was without difficulty, winding over rocky outcrops to reach the trig point in the middle of a small stone shelter. The highest point was a few metres away to the north, and I visited this too before joining the others by the trig point for a group summit photo and a bite to eat and drink. The panorama, in the pre-sunset light, was memorable.
It was now after 17:00 hrs, so a swift descent was needed to make the most of the now failing light. A laid path meandered down the south flank of Pt. 745m, but further on deteriorated into an unsightly eroded scar upon the hill side. Close attention was needed, as the way was steep, stony and slippery, and I lost a lot of time taking care not to let my stiff and tired legs slip from under me.
