"Today I'm climbing the 253-meter peak located north of Cerro de Cala Higuera, in Cabo de Gata.
Parts of the trail are filled with wildflowers sprouting among the basalt rocks of the area. Yellow and white hues, seemingly lifted from an Impressionist painting, contrast with the orange and white of the volcanic rocks spewed forth from the Earth's interior during the Tertiary period.
There's no one on this mountain today except me, but down below on the coastal path, families with children are walking briskly towards Los Escullos.
During the descent, an area catches my eye where the lava seems to create waves cascading down the slope, forming something resembling a troglodyte village. The formation of these mountains millions of years ago must have been quite a geological spectacle." — franciscobirruezo • Feb 28, 2026
