"This time I climb a little further to the left of my usual route in these mountains, and I end up discovering the entrance to a cave hidden among some bushes and two large pine trees.
I peer into the entrance and see that it's bigger than I expected. In an instant, I realize that a mountain that is pure stone can be hollow inside; perhaps they all are, like the batter of a large cake filled with air bubbles.
I continue upwards and reach a small pass near the 198-meter peak, which I decide to climb.
Afterwards, I head towards the 243-meter peak. To the east, I see clouds growing vertically, but they don't seem to bring rain.
I hear the voices of two climbers ascending the face of Bermejo Peak. In total, there are three of us on a mountain that's close to a city of half a million inhabitants.
The great thing about mountains is that they awaken all your senses and satisfy the innate curiosity of human beings." — franciscobirruezo • Nov 30, 2025
"These neighboring mountains of Pico Bermejo are an outcrop of pure rock, specifically metabasites, which are basic igneous rocks that have undergone a metamorphic process. The last time I was here was in July 2023 and I almost fainted from the heat, today a pleasant temperature accompanied me. There are still veins of quartz and other minerals, and you can also see many rabbit bones that will be the food of birds of prey in this area.
In general everything is like the last time I was here, perhaps today the air in the valley was cleaner due to the winds that blew from the west." — franciscobirruezo • Feb 13, 2025
"
I am going this morning to Pico Bermejo, about three miles from the city of Murcia, I am going as early as I can to avoid the heat wave that we already have in southern Spain, even so the temperature when I returned to my vehicle was 34C (about 93F).
That embarrassment and the steep slopes have kicked me well. In some areas the valley-mountain breezes cooled me from time to time. At the top of Diente de la Vieja coming from the 198 m peak I was about to give up Pico Bermejo but I had a pineapple juice and I was able to continue, the fact is that I was hydrating well, but the heat began to hit .
I have been able to see some wild carnations and large butterflies, also a hawk and several swifts.
Many traces of rabbits. Of course, the views of the Valle del Segura from above are really good." — franciscobirruezo • Jul 9, 2023
"After the Storm Emma, today dawns with fog. While breakfast the Sun appears and I go to some nearby mountains. This mountain is not very high but is pure rock and the slope leaves me breathless.
As the sky closes more and more I am going fast to the Peak 238 m" — franciscobirruezo • Mar 4, 2018
