"After hiking Blueberry Hill, Dean and I headed up Rte 73 to Owls Head. A short, steep boulder scramble leads u to a bald summit lookout. Nearly a full circle view awaits u. Very cool panorama ! Just remember that this is a private property hike that is closed to the public on weekends." — garyogden • Jun 3, 2025
"We have been going past Owls Head Mountain on Rt. 73 for years now and although a small, short peak, it is very pronounced as you drive by. It is only available for hiking on weekdays. We parked on the side of Rt. 73 and hiked a private road (Owls Head Lane) in to the trailhead. Although short, the trail was fairly steep in areas and somewhat eroded in others. It is not a marked trail, but is pretty easy to follow. Beautiful views from the summit with Cascade (of course) very prominent in front of us. A number of people were being trained in rock climbing using rope systems at the summit off the cliff side of the peak. Total round trip from Rt. 73 was about 1.5 miles and took a bit less than an hour of hiking time." — TJandMS • Oct 25, 2023
"A beautiful day! Sunny, 75 degrees, no bugs. As I struggle with a pain condition, it took 45 minutes to get to the top with a few little breaks. We sat on top, ate, talked, used Peak Finder to identify peaks and then went down. Descent took 30 minutes. Most people could summit this peak in 30 minutes. " — LWT1966 • Jun 20, 2023
"Finally some nice weather. Deb and I decided to do a couple of short scenic hikes today, Rattlesnake and Owls Head were just what we wanted.
Quick hikes plus an enjoyable drive, a little work and great views on both." — hbotc • Apr 2, 2017
"Beast of the East has wanted to climb this peak for years, and today we finally hiked it. This was an easy hike up at the end of the day after hiking Baker. Great views from many rock ledges along the trail. We will be back to do this one again!" — mrs-beast-of-the-east • Jan 2, 2017
"Enjoyed a quick stop to hike this little summit on the way to Placid for a dinner celebration. Trail is short and easy to follow with a few fun scrambles - 20 minutes to the top, 15 down - an hour of summit time enjoying the views. Great little hike with excellent views into the high peaks." — deb-and-rob • May 24, 2015
"Enjoyed a great hike up this little mountain. Very dry feeling to the open wood hike. A few areas of open rock but very easy scrambles and excellent views into the high peaks. The hike is 0.6 miles each way, has several view points and is never very steep. Even with stops to check out the view we were at the summit in 25 minutes." — deb-and-rob • Sep 13, 2014
