"Another SOTA day trip in Bonus Season. Drove to Licola and up to near Connors Plain. Climbed up onto the summit and activated VK3/VT-022, making 11 contacts. Returned tot eh car and drove around to Mount Selma VK3/VT-013. Set up at the summit and made 17 contacts. Returned to the car and drove do Mount Useful VK3/VT-016, where I made 13 contacts. Returned tot eh car and drove around to just below VK3/VT=-034 Peak 1019 m. "A day out from home with Andrew VK1DA. Drove to Licola and then towards Jamieson and onto Connors Plain. Set up the gear close to the summit and activated VK3/VT-022, making 7 contacts. Packed up and returned to the car. Drove around to South Road, to Mt Selma Road and up to Mt Selma. parked and set up close to the summit to activate VK3/VT-013, making 9 contacts. Packed up, returned to the car and drove back to South Road and down to Mount Useful. Set up on the summit to activate VK3/VT-016, making 5 contacts. Packed up again, returned to the car and drove south then west to reach Peak1019 m, known in SOTA as VK3/VT-034. Set up on the summit and made 6 contacts. "A day of SOTA activity to gain Seasonal Bonus Points. Drove from home to Licola and up towards Jamieson, Then stopped below Connors Plain. Walked up tot eh summit and set up the radio gear. Activated VK3/VT-022, making 5 contacts. Returned to the car and drove around to Mount Selma to set up and activated VK3/VT-013, making 5 contacts. Returned to the car and drove to Mount Useful. "A midweek run to claim some seasonal bonus summits. Drove to Licola and up towards Jamieson. Parked near junction with N7 Track and walked up to Connors Plain summit VK3/VT-022. Set up the radio gear and made 4 contacts. Packed up and returned to car, drove around to Mt Selma Track to park. Walked to summit of Mt Selma VK3/VT-013, making 7 contacts. returned to car and drove to Mt Useful VK3/VT-016. Made 4 contacts. Back to the car and drove out to Peak 1019 m / VK3/VT-034 to again set up the gear, making 4 contacts. "A long day of SOTA with an unexpected surprise. Left home and drove towards Tanjil Bren and up to Mount Toorongo Track, parking near the locked gate. Walked up the track to the high point and climbed up to the summit of Peak 1258 m / Mt Toorongo Range VK3/VT-026. I made 30 contacts over 2 hours. I packed up and walked back to the car. I drove back to the link road and headed north, making my way to Mount Matlock VK3/VC-001. Walked up to the summit and set up the gear, making 12 contacts. I packed up and headed back to the car, and drove around to Mount Selma VK3/VT-013. I again walked up to the summit and set up the radio gear, making 26 contacts. I returned to the car and drove to South Road and headed south. Along the way, I hit one pothole (of many) and soon after the engine started sounding rough.
The engine temperature rose rapidly and the engine stopped, all very rapidly. I disengaged the gears and coasted to a stop at a wider point of the road close to a road junction. After engaging the hand brake, I jumped out of the car. As I exitted, I noticed burning oil dropping from the right hand side of the engine behind the front wheel. i quickly alerted a fried who was about 10 ..." — peterfreeman • Sep 26, 2015

"Second day with Warren VK3KS. Drove to Mount Useful, primarily for Warren to activate VK3/VT-016. There were some other Activators out activating other summits, so I set up my station to chase Summit to Summit contacts, making 7 contacts. We packed up and headed down to Springs Road and south to Williamson Spur Track to park below Peak 1019 m VK3/VT-034. Walked up and set up on the summit I made 16 contacts. "A day trip to activate four SOTA summits. Drove to Licola and up the Jameson Licola Road to below the summit of Connors Plain VK3/VT-022. Walked up to the summit and found a spot to set up the radio gear. Made 32 contacts before packing up and heading back down to the car. Drove to South Road and then Mt Selma Road to park on Mt Selma Track and walk to the summit. Again set up the radio gear to activate Mt Selma VK3/VT-013and made 36 contacts. Packed up and walked back to the car, heading back to South Road and south to the access track to Mt Useful VK3/VT-016. Set up close to the cairn and made 24 contacts. "A day trip from home to bag some summits and Winter Bonus points for SOTA. Travelled to Licola and up towards Jameson. Parked just off the road at No 7 Track and climbed up to the summit of Connors Plain VK3/VT-022. Set up radio gear a short distance away where the trees were lower density. Made 32 contacts. packed up and returned to the car. Travelled back towards Licola and then along South Road, then up Mt Selma Road. Parked at the high point of Mt Selma Track and walked around to the Trig. Set up the radio gear back near the car and made 15 contacts. Packed up and returned to the car. Head back to South Road and then headed south, then up to the summit radio complex at Mount Useful VK3/VT-016. Walked over to the summit cairn. Back closer to the car, I set up the radio gear, this time making 9 contacts. After packing up, I headed south along Springs Road, and then out Williamson Spur Track towards another summit, but found the road blocked with several trees across the road.
