"I initially planned on driving up to New Hampshire, but some car troubles forced a last-minute change of plans to something more local. Most of the snowpack had melted (although it would be emphatically replaced later that night), but there was enough to necessitate microspikes on several uphill sections. The temperature was fairly low, but otherwise it was a perfect clear day with no wind. I left the Great Woods parking area around 12:15pm and set off towards Quarry Crag, which is where I realized I’d need spikes to safely climb most of the rocky hills. After Mt. Hermon and Mt. Spickett, I connected with the Overlook Trail which led to Weetamoo Cliff and the eponymous Overlook. The Deep Woods Trail East took me near a frozen swamp (which had surprisingly thick ice) before looping around to Lynn Shore Drive to begin the return journey. At this point, I was mostly off the trails found on the official map, which showed as I struggled to find the path as it wound between Walden Pond and the cliffsides.
