"After my dentist appointment, I drove down to Pawtuckaway State Park to do some red-lining of the trails. Off of Reservation Rd, I did a loop to the south and had to go over some beaver flooding on the trail. I hiked up between South and Middle Peak and hiked up South first. Nice views from the fire tower. I then headed up Middle where I had a directional ledge view. I touched the high point in the woods and headed down. I was running out of time, so I took the Tower Rd back to my car. " — newenglandwarrior • Mar 14, 2024
"Nice warm up hike as I wait for more snow to melt in the Whites... 11.3 miles in Pawtuckaway State Park, first 7 miles or so I didn't see anyone then got pretty busy as I left South Pawtuckaway with the fire tower." — kpreston21 • Apr 7, 2018
"Trail was a mixed bag of small patches of ice (easily avoidable), mud, and dry trail. The final 0.6 mi ascent to the fire tower was mostly all dry trail. A few blow downs along the way that are likely from the nor'easter on Friday. The first one was just before the Mountain Trail turns right where the Round Pond Trail continues straight. This one was hanging over the trail with the branches acting like a curtain you could walk through. The second one came soon after the is junction on the Mountain Trail. This is the biggest blowdown, as it consisted of several trees blocking the trail, causing all of us to do a small reroute in the trees to rejoin the trail. The last blowdown came furhter on down the trail before making the turn to the ascent toward the summit. This tree was bare and easy to duck under along the way." — HikeLikeMike • Mar 4, 2018
"A fun day out on some of the back trails up to the South Mountain summit. All of the snow was gone off the trails, but there were several long soft, wet stretches that felt like I was walking on cake. Nice views from the summit." — HikeLikeMike • Apr 15, 2017
"Birthday hike! First hike in Pawtuckaway. After hiking North Mountain, finished ring dyke loop over South Mountain with Kerrin and Cody. Good views from the fire tower which was recently rebuilt." — gullyhiker • Apr 9, 2017
"Easy hike until the end where it gets moderate/easy. Tower was under construction. Decent views despite not being able to go up the tower. Hike is along a marsh, so many mosquitos and horse flies." — Bluemagik1 • Jul 16, 2016
"This was the last fire tower for me on the New Hampshire Fire Lookout Tower List. There were 16 on the list and the towers are scattered around the state. Some were pretty goods hikes and some, nearly drive ups but the list took me to some areas and mountains I've never been to." — StoneMan • Jun 27, 2015
"hiked this on an unusually warm (high 40F) February day. A lil' wind made it kind of raw, but tolerable. Trails were great. I can't wait to return when NH gets a REAL WINTER again. I think these trails would be perfect for Snow Shoeing. " — CiccheMariti • Feb 23, 2012
