"Took the shortcut along the “powerline” route from Bouquet Canyon Road. I quickly spotted the use trail about a mile in, which bypasses the road and elevated to the ridge. On the ridge, I turned left and efficiently climbed the high point of the ridge, which is Mt McDill.
Beyond the summit, there are some other peaks with towers on them. I took the opportunity to extend the hike to visit them too. While returning I missed the bypass trail and wound up following the meandering powerline road back to Bouquet Canyon Road. Suddenly my short outing became a long one!" — MikeTeeples • Jun 8, 2019
"I went up the gently graded Pacific Crest Trail to the ridge top then followed the fire road to the summit. It was cool, clear, and gusty, overlooking the Mojave Desert. Came down the power line trail and closed the loop with a short road walk for a 10 mi outing. Later that day, I drove north and hiked up Tehachapi Mountain." — klotito • Mar 11, 2017
"My second peak of the day, after Liebre Mountain. The fire roads and power lines aren't exactly inspiring, but there were plenty of flowers blooming on the lower section of the hike, which made it as lovely as possible. I encountered a rattlesnake about 3/5 of the way up, but it was on one of the double-track parts of the trail, so there was plenty of room for me to get around. Despite the heat wave in SoCal this weekend, it was nice and cool and breezy once I got to the ridge line road at the top. I was the only hiker on the trail today." — HikerMark • Mar 14, 2015
