"LVMC Trip. We left Vegas after work on Friday and drove to the trailhead, arriving sometime around 9pm. We got up early on Saturday and made our way towards Umpah first, since there was a Sierra Club group doing Mopah first. We made our way up the SE Face of Umpah, only having to dodge careening rocks once or twice. We kept looking for the SC group on Mopah, but we could not see them. After a break, we made our way back down. Once we got to the saddle between Mopah & Umpah, Jim, Bart & Jodie decided to head back, while the rest of us proceeded up to Mopah. The 3 of them had done it before, so it wasn't a big deal to them. We increased the pace and started up the SE Face of Mopah, finally intersecting the standard route before the 'tough' climbs. This is where we ran into the Sierra Club group, who had started 30 minutes after us, but were on a much slower pace. We exchanged pleasantries and dodged their dislodged boulders, then continued up. First, there was a slightly exposed class 3 spot, then a narrow notch at the top of a loose, steep chute and finally the crux - an exposed class 4 climb of about 25 feet or so. There was a webbing line left previously in that spot. ..." — Kevin • Jan 27, 2018
