"On a mild, unseasonably warm, perfectly clear day…in the midst of a month long drought, Petey and I again made our way over to the small circular lot in Franklin Lakes to make our ascent up Moon Hill. We took the Orange trail to the falls area, and from there we walked through the woods in the direction of Moon Hill. We couldn’t find any trace of an official trail, but I used common sense along with a map and the GPS on my phone. It wasn’t hard to get to the peak, as it was easy to navigate the leaf covered and rocky terrain. In about 30 minutes we were on top of the peak. It was covered by large rock formations which created a fairly large clearing; however, due to the tree line and the peaks location within the park, there were no views of the surrounding area. The significantly taller Beech/Preakness Mountain could be seen in the Northeast direction. My hiking partner’s nose took us back the way we came and we got back to the car very easily.
