Red woodlands trail to yellow summit trail. Trails were well marked, wide and not too rocky considering the location. Ascent is gradual incline until the last quarter mile to the summit where it gets fairly steep.
After descending Mount Cecchino to the southeast (see report on Cecchino page), I, accompanied by my four-legged hiking companion continued on the yellow summit trail to the summit of High Mountain, the highest peak in the High Mountain Park Preserve in Wayne, NJ. The trail was well blazed and ascended gradually until the last quarter mile where it got fairly steep before reaching the summit. A large solar-powered star; "Star of Hope" erected by the Borough of North Haledon is placed on a wide rock ledge just below the summit. That ledge offers an excellent view of Northeastern New Jersey all the way out to the NYC skyline. Unfortunately, the view of the city was limited due to haze. From there, we hiked a few hundred more feet; passing the American Flag rock on our way to the mountain's peak. There were no views from the summit due to trees, and its location on the mountain top.
