"Let me say, I’m so happy to have been bitten by the peak bagging bug a month ago. Today I tackled Markleeville Peak and I know I’m new to this game, but this was an amazing hike. Definitely one I could see myself doing over and over again. Along for the hike was my wife, 7-year old son, and 5-year old daughter. This hike would have been rather easy, but our pace was slow with the two kids. My daughter rode on my back in the kid carrier which put an extra 40 lbs in my back, making this a nice leg burner! Took us 2:42 up and 1:18 down, so consider that if taking little ones. We followed Dean Gaudet’s gps track most of the way, good starting point. Jumped a buck in the drainage and saw lots of old bear scat. The wildflowers were out in force, never seen so many mules ears before! Found the register under a flat rock just behind the summit stick. Register dated back to 1999! Super cool. Absolutely loved this hike!! This is Ogul #2 for me! Can’t wait to tackle more from this list." — staindpackman • Jul 12, 2018
"I hosted a hike with NorCal Women Adventurers today to hike Markleeville Peak (9,396') and The Nipple (9,341'), my 21st and 22nd Ogul peaks.
I was worried the smoke from the Detwiler Fire might affect the air quality, but we got lucky! It was still pretty clear and we had great views all around. We hiked Markleeville first, using a use trail or maybe an old fire road that started from Blue Lakes Rd. We had a couple of small snow patches to cross, and then the off-trail fun began. The wildflowers were out in full display, and I've never seen so many mariposa lilies in my life! After first summiting the false summit, we hopped over to the actual summit, signed the register, and headed back down to the car to hike The Nipple." — kaylam87 • Jul 22, 2017
