"From Kara Tepe walked down road to south west and then up a small path which takes one to a fountain before finding the large wide strip of road that leads directly to this hill. The surrounding area is called the Sheik Su forest and dates from Ottaman times, apparently. On the top itself is a stone terrace which sports, as well as a couple of pergola, a huge surveillance camera which pivotted to watch our approach. My suspicion is that this is to watch for illegal migrants, although it could just be a way to survey the port of Thessalonika. I encountered a large tortoise on top and all through our walk I saw lots of butterflies, the most striking of which was an almost florescent lime green. From here on to nearby Artemis to the east" — vygodski • May 30, 2025
