"What a great day. After foggy tuesday got rewarded with nice weather. Apparently I did not take any pictures on Mytikas which is a shame. This route up was much more fun than the normal route to Mytikas via Spilios Agapitos." — LadislavT • Jul 7, 2023
"Climbed this on the way to the top of Olympus. I was pleased to have found a dirt track which meant I could drive to the refuge to the south west at approx 2450m. The drive off asphalt was 1.30 hours and pretty hairy at times, but I was short of time, so it was ideal. No mention was made of this in the admittedly small amount of research I had done. I looked into the refuge at it was basic but looked like it had room for around 20 people. From here a gradual climb with Skolio in front. This I skirted around towards its top. Half way I took a wrong turning as I had got it into my head I'd been looking at Skala to the east all the way along, whereas I'd been looking at Agios Antonius to the south. It would be the first of two times I would storm off in the wrong direction on this walk and I think partly to blame was not having a paper map and thus relying on my partner's smartphone and not checking with the compass. Anyway, I had gone 15 mins before realising my mistake and returning to head north to Skala. Another reason was because of the cloud I could not actually see Skala or Mythicas, so I sort of surmised they weren't there, whereas they certainly were. Anyhow, once on the trac..." — vygodski • Jul 4, 2023
"The second day of a four-day trek by KE Adventure Travel on the Olympos Massif, Macedonia, Northern Greece.
From Spilios Agapitos Refuge (Refuge 'A') at 2060m, to the minor peak of Skala 2866m/40m.
The strong wind had prevented anyone from summitting Mytikas on the previous day, but the forecast for today was set fair. Zeus was smiling on us.
We set off from Refuge 'A' after a light breakfast in the cool of the morning, and an extra layer was needed to keep warm. As the sun rose higher and hotter, my windshirt was soon back in my rucksack.
The trail headed south at first to gain the crest of the Chondromesorachi ridge. The forest was soon left behind, giving way to a zone of dwarf pines. The trail then followed this ridge east, now above even where dwarf pines could grow, into dry bare limestone terrain. We were now in the high montane zone, with wide views and rugged scenery.
Eventually we reached a path junction. Our route turned north-west to climb the south-east ridge of Skala. This was hard work in the heat, at a steep gradient all the way, and over loose ground of rock and scree.
Eventually we reached the summit of Skala, revealing fine views of the..." — marktrengove • Sep 13, 2017
"I took a number of panorama pictures, 24 of which became a part of my virtual tour "Solo tracking and Climbing Olympus E4: Litohoro - Mitikas"
