"I gotta start by saying: By no means should you follow my GPS track. I was up at the State Park doing some vegetation surveys and happened to take my lunch break to head up to Hermans Peak. I had zero information about it, other than seeing that it was a named peak on the maps I had on hand. I approached the ridge at two different, wrong points before finally finding the correct path to the high route. In the end, the views of Lake 22 and the higher Cascade Peaks to the East and North made it well worth it. After lunch, I descended to Summit Lake via an absolutely terrible route. There are numerous cliff bands that do not show up clearly on topo maps. Luckily, I had fairly high resolution LiDAR that helped me navigate these microfeatures. Summit Lake was an incredibly pleasant temperature for a mid-afternoon dip--there was not the typical Cascades "Oh-my-god-i-have-to-get-out-of-this-freezing-water-now-or-i-will-die" response. From Summit Lake I investigated a really nice fen on the southern border of the park, before heading back up to Iodine Gulch via an imperfect route (still superior to my descent path).
