"Attempted a Great Range Traverse on September 23, 2022
But a freak snow storm, freezing temps, 40mph wind, and a soaking wet mountain range said "no".
Modified the plan to exit Gothics towards Pyramid, pick up Sawteeth, and head down the Weld Trail. Afterwards we had to walk out 4.5 miles along Lake Road through AMR and another 2.5 back to the Inn along Route 73 after dark.
Memorable." — ndru-virus • Sep 23, 2022
"Hedgehog is a viewless summit but Snow & Roostercomb had your classic gorgeous adirondack views. There was a thick blanket of leaves that were slippery but beautiful. The foliage is way past peak but still lots of bright yellow trees with leaves dotted the landscape." — dallasdevries • Oct 22, 2020
"Another great hike, got the wife back with me, great to have my partner! Great weather, a little cold in the morning but it turned out to be a nice fall day. Colors from the fall foliage were beautiful, the hike up Hedgehog and Wolfjaw from the Rooster Comb parking lot was moderate with some steep pitches but all and all very enjoyable." — hbotc • Oct 15, 2016
"The Real Marcy’s Playground: A One Day Great Range Traverse
From the inception of my days as a hiker, I’ve strived to get better—both in terms of my mental and physical well-being. For some reason, the former has been appeased by abusing the latter to the point of misery. What exactly do I mean by that? Insanity fuels my happiness. More specifically, hiking 25 miles with roughly 9400 feet of elevation gain in one day is my cup of tea.
I had been eyeing a one day Great Range Traverse for a long time. I talked it up and talked it up to the point where it seemed as if it had already been done. But had I known then what I know now, it would have been apparent that I had my work cut out for me, regardless of how good of shape I was in. The opportunity sprung up after Lauren and I discussed a great way to start off our second year of dating with a 25 mile death march through the Dacks.

A Great Range Traverse commences at either the Garden or the Roostercomb trailhead, and often ends with a 2+ mile hike to the other lot. Fortunately, we hitched a ride back to the latter trail from the Garden late at night—but that’s a story for later. At a minimum, the hike ascends Hedgeho..." — justinraphaelson • Sep 5, 2015
"We enjoyed a great birthday hike with friends. We dropped a car at Rooster Comb and started at the Garden around 9 am heading up to UWJ then LWJ and out RC. This was our first time enjoying the RC trail and also our first hiking to UWJ/LWJ via the Garden instead of AMC. The climb to UWJ is fun with a lot of climbing, the col in between the two and back up LWJ was steeper than we remembered (probably due to hiking 13 miles the day before!) and the RC trail out seemed to go on with many switchbacks but was an enjoyable, easy and open trail. We tracked 12.6 miles and arrived back at the RC lot at 5:15 after spending 30 minutes on each summit." — deb-and-rob • Oct 11, 2014
