"Made it as far as Frazer before the fatigue from climbing the day before really set in. A long section of unavoidable deep snow at treeline that was already starting to soften at 8 would have been pretty dangerous by the time I got back. Also my phone battery somehow drained from 60% to 18% while turned off overnight so there were many signs not to summit. Hope to return this summer!" — cheeseishappiness • May 29, 2021
"After climbing Guadalupe Peak, TX and Black Mesa, OK the last 2 days, today we made our way up to Wherler Peak via Bull-of-the-Woods trail. We made quick stops at BOTW Peak, Fraser Mountain & Walter Peak along the way. Took the Williams Lake trail down (with some perfect glissading). " — Kevin • Jun 4, 2017
"Summited this Peak enroute to Wheeler. There was tons of snow remaining at the summit. Bands of snow moved across the summit as I was there. A large system was coming in from the South. With having started at 1030AM and post holing there was not enough time to reach the summit of Wheeler. Frazer did provide wonderful views of the surrounding areas. I stumbled upon a group of about 8 sheep at the summit. All and all a beautiful day hike with amazing views. Not reaching the summit of wheeler provides me justification for returning to the area again. " — jouv236 • Apr 28, 2016
"Made the trip from Las Vegas, NV with 10 other friends from the Hiking Las Vegas hiking group, with the single objective of summitting New Mexico's highest peak, Wheeler. We took the Bull-of-the-Woods trail up, stopping at Bull-of-the-Woods Peak, Fraser Peak & Walter Peak on the way. It was an early season ascent & we did encounter quite a bit of snow on the way up, but nothing too difficult to cross. After Wheeler, we descended via Williams Lake Trail, but 1/2 way down the switchbacks, we encountered a LOT of really deep snow that went all the way down to the bottom. We decided to turn lemons into lemonade & had an impromptu butt-sliding session all the way to the bottom! It was definitely the quickest & funnest descent I've done! After that was the long slog back to our vehicles. What an amazing day! This was my 4th state high point in the last 4 years. Loved it! This is one of the best hikes I've done!" — Kevin • May 4, 2013
"On Wednesday morning, June 17, 2009 I got up at 4:30 and was out the door with my dog daisy by 5:00 AM. We drove for about 3 hours until we got to the Williams Lake parking lot near the Taos, New Mexico ski area. The goal for the day was to hike Frazer Mountain, 12,163 feet in elevation. There is a trail that could have been taken from another direction, but I was looking for a fast way up. From the parking lot my GPS said that the peak was about 9 tenths of a mile straight up. I was carrying a 13.5 pound day pack that had food, emergency items and 5 pounds of water. My wire-haired fox terrier dog Daisy had a little backpack with her leash and some water. We headed straight up. It was very strenuously invigorating. I would not recommend this way unless you want a really good workout. While heading up we crossed 2 very old roads that were too over grown even for a 4-wheel drive vehicle. There were some cliffs below the peak but it is easy to find a way around them. I did not stop except for a few standing stops and made the top in one hour and 45 minutes. To my surprise we were at the top at 9:45 AM. It was a beautiful sunny day, and as almost always above 12,000 feet it was cold a..." — Phil-Robinson • Jun 17, 2009
