"Part of a 23-mile, 5-peak adventure along the AT in which I took TWO wrong turns giving me an extra 4 1/2 miles for the day. It was hot and humid as well while I ran out of water around 18-19 miles. Long story short, I made several bad decisions this day that led to a good story. No significant views until my second wrong turn up Black Rock Hill. Loads of thru hikers. This 8+ mile stretch of AT was a first for me. Beautiful biodiversity and lots of climbing. The Bryant Ridge shelter is quite impressive. By far the nicest I've encountered on the Appalachian Trail. Made a huge loop utilizing the AT, Glenwood Horse Trail, and Middle Creek Road. This area of the Jefferson National Forest near Acadia and Buchanan is pure natural beauty. "A surprisingly challenging climb along the Appalachian Trail. Wildflowers and Mountain Laurel were in bloom in this beautiful, biodiverse region of the Blue Ridge. This was part of a 16-mile day. This short section of the AT is pretty remote and I saw no thru-hikers. " — runshigleyrun • May 11, 2024
"A rather uneventful trek along the AT. A challenging hike with no views. However, natural solitude with blueberries and various wildflowers are the reward for your efforts. " — runshigleyrun • Jul 16, 2022
