"Hiked solo today. Hiked Panther Mtn and then drove to Meacham Lake State Campground to hike Debar. For the first 2 miles , I was wishing I had my mtn bike. Then things got rocky. After the lean-to, it turned into a half mile scramble. Fun! Views from the old tower summit should have been great, but with the Canadian fires, the smoke obscured everything in the distance. Good hike all in all." — garyogden • Aug 5, 2025
"Having spent the night at the Meacham Lake State Campground after hiking Loon Lake Mt. the day before, I hiked up Debar Mountain today. The trail leaves right from the campground, and it is flat at the start. The bugs were atrocious along this part. Not only were the deer flies just as bad as they were on Loon Lake, there were also mosquitoes thrown into the mix. I had to walk fast to escape them. Once the trail does go up, it is a pretty average hike, the fun part is after the lean-to. The route goes basically straight up the steep side of the mountain, passing an interesting rock slide before reaching the summit. Having left the flies behind for the climb, I didn't expect to see them at the summit. But there they were, ready to harass me one again. The summit afforded a picturesque view back to Meacham Lake, which was cool to look at. It is a nice hike, but bring a bug net." — elimihuta • Jul 9, 2025
"Went up Debar this morning, early enough and cool enough to miss the black flies and mosquito's. Caught them on the way down though!
Great weather, great views from the peak. A great last 3/4 mile, nice steep climb made for a good work out. The 1st 3 miles to the lean-to are easy." — hbotc • May 20, 2017
"Was supposed to be raining all day Today, it did eventually, but the start was quite nice. Hiked up to the summit of Debar, as it's been on my radar for a while now. Weather forecast meant we rescheduled or original plan. A great hike, very steep after the cabin. Today was very slippery also, with lots of running water on the trail. But, we pushed on for a successful summit, and summit number 200 for me." — HikingViking • May 13, 2017
