"Spent a day exploring the old mines of Currock Hill. Pretty boring top. The alternative top is supposed to have a trig point but couldn't find it. Other than it being the highest point in the old county of Tyne and Wear and the current highest top in Tyne and Wear... the place is only worth a visit if you are interested in the industrial history of the Tyne Valley because it is near the old Lead Road that transported lead from Allenheads to Blaydon in the 18th century. There are also a lot of coal mining activity in the area from the 17th century through to the 20th century... the last pit closing in the late 1960s... and the top being close to one of the branches of the Tyne Valley's second oldest wagon way (the Tyne Valley being famous for the development of the railway industry).
